探偵業を始めたばかりの東堂解（とうどうかい）は、人と上手くコミュニケーションが取れない変わり者。家事と助手をしてくれる人物を求めていた。
大学時代の友人である北原（きたはら）は、従兄弟の売れない小説家、南条（なんじょう）をルームメイトにと東堂に紹介する。
破天荒でお調子者の南条にいまいち馴染めない東堂。南条もまた、探偵らしからぬ東堂に疑問を抱いていた。
そんな中、立て続けに不可解な連続殺人事件が起きる。
殺された彼らの共通点、東堂の手に渡った暗号、とある組織に隠された闇。
そして、謎の女の出現により、東堂は頭の回転に支障をきたす。
果たして、東堂は事件を解決できるのか―――。
